Huts are elevated off the ground in a community outside the city of Niamey. Rural homes are typically made of mud bricks or grass mats. They are often circular, one-room dwellings and have no furniture except for a bed and a few chairs or stools. Electricity and plumbing are rarely available in rural areas.
